VISION:A

The technological revolution of the mid-90s substantively changed the landscape of video creation, causing the start of a process of democratization in the access to media production and research for visual artists and multimedia. The result has been, to date, the emergence of a large generation of creators, prolific in the production of work and visible thanks to the ubiquity of the medium.

VISION:A is an initiative of the Instituto Cervantes which presents a collection of works in video of recent production, whose selection has been made under the LOOP Video Art Festival of Barcelona. The project involves a review of all content submitted to LOOP, a historical annual memorial in video format on the latest social and artistic events that shape the reality of complex societies of our time. This review is characterized by making a timely contextualisation of the moment, show their related conceptual and aesthetic referents, reflect on the theoretical thought that approach and leads to new and narrative styles; tracing, like that, the paths through where proposals for the future will flow. Most of the artists selected are multidisciplinary and use video as a tool for audiovisual communication, both in works for single canal or combined one with other disciplines, media or objects in which they constitute facilities with varying degrees of complexity.

Participating artists: Alexandra Navratil, Arturo Fuentes, Blanca Casas, Sebastián Gordin, Calçada Rui Bastos, Anna Gonzalez Suero, Alejandro Vidal
Paulina León, Vasco Araujo, Andres Michelena, María Cañas, Xoán Anleo.

On occasion of VISION:A project, various educational activities have been organized related with the production and distribution of audiovisual works, in collaboration with AECID and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain. The activities have been aimed to strength the knowledge of the video and enhance the networking between artistic communities in different countries.
